Bridgend residential home's staff and residents enjoying 'sharing' over a cup of tea
Llys Gwyn Residential Home in Bridgent has launched a project called "Look Behind Our Uniforms" to enable staff to share a bit about their lives with residents to foster trust and understanding - and to bring a little laughter too.
Home manager, Marcella Taylor, says: "It's an opportunity for staff members to share with our residents their life experience and for our residents to get to know a bit about the person that gets them up in the morning.
"As staff we all know about the people we look after so we thought, 'Wouldn't it be nice for them to know a bit more about us?'"
'Sharing' sessions facilitated by activities co-ordinator - over a cuppa
'Sharing' sessions are facilitated by the home's activities co-ordinator, Jenny, and set in a relaxing environment over a cup of tea.
Marcella adds: "Our residents have absolutely loved it, and so have the staff. They have all laughed, asked questions and have really been interested.
"It has really had an impact on the home and I thought maybe other homes could implement or just try this too.
"Obviously there is no pressure on staff to participate but for some, once they get going there's no stopping them. We've heard all about their Punk days, how they met their husbands or wives and why they chose the career they have!"
